The PRC, via its cooperative agreement with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, US Department of Justice (DOJ), has released the finalized audit instrument for adult Prisons and Jails as well as the audit instrument for Juvenile Facilities. Drafts of both instruments have been revised and edited based on beta-tests of the instrument and on feedback from the field and from our partners.
The instruments include a pre-audit questionnaire, the auditor compliance tool, instructions for the auditor facility tour, six interview protocols for staff and inmates/residents, and a template for the auditor’s final report. In addition, a process map and checklist of documentation are available to assist agencies in their preparation for an audit.
