For Kids’ Sake: PREA and Victim Services in Youth Facilities

This webinar, which is being presented jointly by JDI and the PREA Resource Center, will guide juvenile detention officials on how to develop – and carry out – plans for responding to sexual abuse in their facilities. The session will offer tips to help facility staff develop a coordinated, emergency response plan. There will also be a section devoted to explaining the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and sexual abuse crisis counseling models, and their effectiveness as tools for preventing and responding to abuse in youth detention.

The webinar will offer examples of successful partnerships between juvenile facilities and community service providers. Expert speakers will address common concerns about providing support services to youth detainees, such as reporting requirements, maintaining confidentiality, and how to deliver trauma-informed care that is age appropriate. There will be a question-and-answer session at the end of the training.
