Interview Protocol - Juvenile Facility

The interview protocol are one of the evidence collection components of the PREA audit instrument.

As the PREA Standards require several interview obligations, the Audit Instrument includes multiple interview protocols for interviewing different categories of staff and inmates, residents, and detainees. It is important to note that some of the interview protocols provided below are a collection of multiple protocols under one title (i.e. Specialized Staff and Inmate, Resident, and Detainee Interview Protocols).

Each interview protocol is designed to elicit information about practices in the facility that relate to specific PREA Standards and more general attitudes about preventing and responding to sexual abuse and sexual harassment. Auditors are not limited to the interview questions included in the protocols; rather, these questions are designed to serve as a starting point for eliciting information about the facility’s compliance with the PREA Standards. Auditors are strongly encouraged to use the interview protocols in conjunction with the Auditor Compliance Tool and ask additional questions based on information they collect throughout the audit process. Responses to the interview questions will be part of the auditor’s compliance assessment.
