Content of the Webinar:
This new webinar for local corrections officials will cover how to set up inmate education programs in jails that are compliant with the PREA Standards. The session, which is being presented jointly by the National PREA Resource Center and Just Detention International, will focus on the measures in the PREA standards that require jails to adopt comprehensive sexual abuse awareness programs for new arrivals and current inmates.

This training, the first of a two-part series on inmate education in jails, will give an overview of the different ways to implement inmate education programs. Captain John Johnson, who heads up the Compliance, Inspections and Accreditation Bureau Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department, and is incoming Third Vice President of the American Jail Association, will address the importance of such programs in maintaining safe facilities, their impact on institutional culture, and ways to garner buy-in from staff and inmates alike.

The webinar will also feature talks from leading corrections experts in the fields of inmate education and sexual abuse prevention. The training will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
