Brian is currently a Senior Consultant for CDR Health. He has partnered with them to develop contracts for local, state, and federal correctional facilities to provide comprehensive healthcare, assessments, and consulting opportunities. He enjoyed a 23-year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons where he served as Warden, Program Review Division Administrator, and Deputy Regional Director. His career included 6 years experience in maximum security prisons.
Lt. Michael Bujnak is currently the PREA Coordinator, Pandemic Response Coordinator, Field Training Coordinator, Jail Division Policy Writer, and an Academy Instructor at the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department. Lt. Bujnak started his career as a Floor Officer in 2009, progressing as a Booking Officer, Assistant Shift Commander, and Shift Commander before being appointed to his current position.
Conner is currently a Manager of Correctional Operations at the Maine Department of Corrections and has been with the department of eight years. Previously, he was a PREA Coordinator overseeing PREA compliance for both adult and juvenile correctional facilities.
Lorena has over 27 years of experience with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, to include: 16 years of security, monitoring, quality assurance, auditing, training and technical review experience and 11 years of PREA investigative experience. During her tenure she held the positions of PREA Coordinator/ Manager, Correctional Officer, Field Training Officer, Operational Review Sergeant, and currently holds the position of Manager - serving as a Legislative Coordinator and technical writer.
Sarah is currently a Correctional Lieutenant for the PREA Compliance Office for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Sarah has been with CDCR for 12 years, and has been a PREA investigator for 5 years. Previously, Sarah was a Correctional Lieutenant in a Medical Correctional Facility, and a Correctional Sergeant in a Male General Population Correctional Institution.
Heather Burgess (she/her) is an Empire Fellow at the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV). As a member of OPDV's Bureau of Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Programming, she works to advance culturally-responsive services within the gender-based violence response system.
Previously, Heather was the Senior PREA Research Associate with the NYC Board of Correction and specialized in the Board’s Elimination of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment standards. She was also the BOC representative on the NYC TGNCNBI Task Force, a collaborative group consisting of members from DOC, CHS, city government, and community organizations that works to improve the treatment and housing of transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and intersex people in custody.
