PREA Data Collection Activities

The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) requires the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) to conduct and publish an annual comprehensive statistical review and analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape.

Each report describes BJS's data-collection and related activities to measure the prevalence of sexual abuse in correctional facilities. Each of these collections is an independent effort, and they are not directly comparable.

For more data and additional publications related to PREA and sexual abuse in correctional facilities, visit the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
