Carthage man draws prison time for sexual assault of other jail inmate

A Carthage man pleaded guilty Monday to sexual assault of another inmate at the Jasper County Jail and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Franklin R. Kinsey, 24, pleaded guilty in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin to counts of second-degree sodomy and failure to register as a sex offender in a plea agreement dismissing an unrelated count of forgery and waiving a sentencing assessment. Circuit Judge Gayle Crane accepted the plea deal and assessed the defendant concurrent terms of five years on each conviction.
