About the Series:
The PREA 101 Webinar Series focuses on the U.S Department of Justice’s National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape, released on May 17, 2012. Each webinar will provide a presentation on standards readiness and blueprints for moving forward in the various correctional settings including adult prisons, jails and lock-ups, community corrections and juvenile agencies. The goal of the series is to: (1) assist agencies in triaging their response to the standards; (2) share information and resources; and (3) answer questions.
Content of the Webinar:
The National PREA Resource Center and The Project on Addressing Prison Rape hosted the first webinar in the Resource Center’s PREA 101 Webinar Series, this one focusing on Community Corrections. With the release of the U.S Department of Justice’s National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape, on May 17, 2012, correctional systems around the country are examining their current and future responses to preventing and responding to sexual misconduct and assault. In this interactive web conference, Prof. Brenda V. Smith, Director of the Project on Addressing Prison Rape covered how to:
(1) discuss where agencies are in their preparations for the standards;
(2) discuss how agencies might move forward with implementation;
(3) identify resources for agencies; and
(4) answer questions from participants.
