Overview:

The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) in collaboration with the National PREA Resource Center and the Vera Institute of Justice will introduce to corrections and the victim services fields the recently released Recommendations for Administrators of Prisons, Jails, and Community Confinement Facilities for Adapting the U.S. Department of Justice’s A National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations, Adults/Adolescents. It provides recommendations to corrections officials and victim service organizations on how to adapt a victim-centered, coordinated approach to working with victims of sexual abuse in confinement. The webinar will feature speakers who participated in the development of the guide and will discuss how the guide can help agencies comply with the PREA standards. A question and answer period featuring Kim Day, SAFE Technical Assistance Coordinator, International Association of Forensic Nurses, will follow the formal presentation.

Who Should Attend:

Representatives from state departments of corrections, jails, juvenile agencies, community corrections agencies and lockups. PREA Coordinators and PREA Compliance Managers are encouraged to attend. Other recommended attendees include community-based victim service organizations and sexual assault response teams (SARTs).
